Fall/Winter Exhibits

Fall/Winter Exhibits Are All About Blues, Birds, Brokenshire, and Diane Miller!

LA GRANGE, TEXAS—AUGUST 25, 2025—Four fabulous exhibits are coming to the Texas Quilt Museum to jam-pack its display areas: Welcome to My Garden: Contemporary Botanicals by Andrea Brokenshire; Birds by Linda Fjeldsted Blust; The Traditional Quilts of Dianne Miller (sponsored by The Lucille Gaebler Klein Fund); and 19th Century Blues: It’s More Than Indigo.

They will run August 28-December 20, 2026.

Welcome to My Garden features 36 works by Brokenshire, the undisputed queen of flowers interpreted with paint in cloth. She is best known for her floral appliqué quilts. The Museum will also display some of her earlier works made using traditional methods of quiltmaking, as well as her beautiful and award-winning quilts in painted appliqué.

“I learned of Andrea through the International Quilt Festival many years ago and fell in love with her abilities to express beauty in fabric,” says Museum Curator Vicki Mangum. “If you’ve never seen her award-winning quilts up close, now is your chance!”

Birds by Linda Fjeldsted Blust has eight works from Blust, who says that she has always been a nature lover. “Wherever I wander, I am captivated by the wildlife and natural beauty around me. I am particularly enthralled by birds,” she offers.

Blust is so captivated that she hasn’t been able to resist creating birds in fabric. Some of the creations are based on birds you may see on an afternoon walk. Others (more likely) are from her imagination.

“The birds are ingenious and engage the imagination,” Mangum says. “Be sure to bring your children by to see these works of bird art.”

The Traditional Quilts of Dianne Miller showcases 15 works from the nationally recognized artist. Although best known for her pictorial quilts, she also creates stunning traditional quilts with a specialty in appliqué, including the Baltimore Album style. Her interests have also expanded into antique quilts and their restoration.

“I began closely following Dianne on her Facebook page and saw what she was doing in that area, with beautiful results,” Mangum offers.

“Dianne is very talented, well-trained, and loves antiquing. If you are the least bit interested in restoring and/or reproducing antique quilts, this is exhibit is for you.”

Finally, 19th Century Blues: It’s More Than Indigo includes 25 study quilts made by members of the American Quilt Study Group (AQSG).

Many museums, historical societies, and individuals have given permission for the historic quilts selected by participants from their collection to be used for inspiration.

The members of AQSG, immerse themselves in the study of antique quilts. One of the ways they share what they have learned is to have a themed challenge every other year and reproduce the quilt studied. The quilt is reduced in size to approximately ¼ the original’s size.

“The AQSG is an amazing organization that promotes the art and history of quilting,” Mangum sums up. “This will be a special exhibit that bridges the past and the present of our favorite art form.”
